Mothershead Ranch โ North Dakota Premium Beef For Sale
About This Business
At Mothershead Ranch, we raise and individually select each animal for butchering based on their age, body condition, and weight. Our herd is made up of an Angus/Simmental cross which we raise on the North Dakota prairies, just south of the foothills of the Turtle Mountains which straddle the US/Canadian border.
We try to raise our family, crops, and livestock all with the same regenerative principles that we've learned through many years of practice and various forms of education. We never mass medicate our cattle. We are, however, responsible users of antibiotics and herd health vaccines when the situation deems it necessary. We won't allow our cattle to suffer from illness any more than we would let our children or ourselves. Safety and health are two main concerns here, and we have a very strict protocol that we follow to keep any "medicated" animal out of the food chain. If it isn't good enough for us, it isn't good enough for you. We pride ourselves in the responsible, healthy, and ethical ways we raise our animals, crops, and family.
The Angus/Simmental breeds lend themselves well to finishing a nice carcass and great marbling ability to give that wonderful flavor. The medium/large frame brought from the Simmental provides lots of carcass room for the meat without adding a ton of bone. All animals on our ranch are grass-fed, while we finish those to butcher with small amounts of corn and barley grown by us on our farm. We find that this way, we get all of the grass-fed/finished benefits, such as flavor, as well as the tenderness and marbling from the grains they get.
With our holistic approach to everything we do, we find the cattle thrive through their entire life cycle. We purchase some bulls for breeding purposes, but other than that, we never bring any other animals into our "closed" herd. Instead, we sell commercial-bred heifers as breeding stock, as well as a few bulls every year for others to build performance within their herds.
